An international conference in southern Sardinia
A multi-day event for 150 guests from Australia and New Zealand, with conference sessions, shared meals and a chance to discover southern Sardinia.
Alessia Piperno coordinated the hotel, meeting spaces, transport and activities, working with local suppliers to bring the programme together.

Planning the conference and everything around it
The meetings were the starting point. Around the conference schedule, Alessia organised lunches and dinners, winery visits, tastings and excursions, along with the coaches and cars needed to move guests between locations.
There were restaurant bookings to coordinate, boats to arrange and activity timings to fit around the working sessions. With 150 people attending, each part needed to fit into the day without leaving the organisers to manage individual suppliers.
A taste of Sardinia
Guests visited a winery, tasted local wines and olive oil, and learned to make seadas, the traditional Sardinian cheese-filled pastries. The programme also included sport fishing and boat excursions along the coast.
Lunches and dinners gave everyone time to spend together beyond the conference sessions, with food and local traditions running throughout the stay.
A boat trip became a pecorino-making workshop
When bad weather forced the cancellation of one boat excursion, Alessia arranged a pecorino-making workshop in its place.
She found an alternative supplier and reorganised the afternoon around the existing schedule. Instead of heading out on the water, guests spent that time learning to make Sardinian cheese.
It was a different afternoon from the one planned, but still a shared experience connected to the island.
Alessia’s role
Alessia’s remit covered accommodation, meeting rooms, coach and car transfers, restaurants, boats and activities. She coordinated the suppliers involved and handled changes to the programme, giving the organisers a single contact across these arrangements.
This project shows the scope of the support available through The Italian Chapter: planning the stay around the event itself and managing the details that bring everyone together.
